Nashville = Flavourtown

  Mary Brown's in one sneaky little jinx.  She hinted on social media that something NEW was coming out, and that you could probably figure it out if you downloaded their app. Guess what I did.  I downloaded the app. Yep. I have MB's app on my iPhone.  I kinda figured it was probably a Nashville hot - what else could they offer? - but what I didn't anticipate were Nashville hot taters!  I'm not a fan of taters. I'm a fries gal - steak cut fries are as as big as I go, fry wise. Taters are just, I don't know - they aren't for me. So, I stuck with just the sandwich, which was more than enough: A whole MB chicken breast, tossed in a sweet, smoky, spicy hot honey Nashville glaze, topped with Ranch dressing and pickles and served on a sesame seed bun, plus a small Original Taters (for Theo) and a can of Pop. That's where this write up stops. I started this last year, and never finished! I just added the picture today, March 23, 2023 - almost one year after I o

Chicks Dig It.

Hey.  So, this blog took a bit of a hiatus. No real reason, other than life got busy and all those other bullshit reasons we say when we give up things we enjoy to make it seem like NBD.  (me at lunch with a coworker, eating a soup and sandwich special) I've been itching for a creative outlet, and I tell you, I can only make so many mugs and shirts with my Cricut machine, so restarting this blog seemed reasonable. Hoping to get an old physical outlet on the go again soon with some pals (wall climbing), so we'll see how long I can maintain this. Went out with Dana, my dear (local) coworker, for lunch today at The Local . The Local is fairly new, maybe the last year or two? Time means nothing to me these days.  We were sat and I scanned the menu for a Nashville hot fried chicken sandwich, as I was eager to stick to what got this blog started. No dice. However, they had some other chicken stuff on there, and the special was a sliced chicken sandwich served with a bisque style soup

Sloppy Seconds

 I made my way to the new Mary Brown's location in Stratford the other evening, my second visit (hence today's title), hungry for a chicken burger. Literally starving, I was.  As I previously mentioned, Mary Brown's has three different chicken sandwiches: The Big Mary Original, Spicy Big Mary, and Buffalo Big Mary. I had tried the OG and the Spicy - it was time I got my hands wrapped around the Buffalo BM. Service was fast (this was later in the evening, rather than at more popular times), so it seems like now the crew at MB's has their flow down, which is great. I never mind waiting, really. But I was thankful I didn't have to wait long as hungry as I was. I decided to eat in the parking lot, straight away. When I have hot fast food, I want to eat it fast, while it's fresh. Even though I live literally 2 minutes away, I still opted for my car. Listen, when you work from home, in a pandemic, you're home ALL THE TIME. Eating in the car is a friggin' treat

This was originally written June 6, 2021. I realized I didn't publish it. So, now it is published.  _____________________________________________________________________________________ I bring this little number joke to introduce tonight's chicken sandwich contender from twosix{ate} , a cute little restro in Little Italy.  This is a gem I wish I visited sooner. Though currently not set up like it would be in 'normal times', I can imagine what a sweet, intimate spot it could be. Alas, my first visit was just for the take-out. Maybe next visit, I'll get to enjoy a more intimate meal experience (fingers crossed).  I met up with a lovely pal for a 'cheaters' picnic' in the park. My definition of a cheater's picnic is when you just pick up take-out and have a picnic - no actual assembly of picnic-y foods yourself. I didn't even bring my picnic basket or picnic backpack. I'm serious about picnics. However, time was of the essence, and I also reall

Check my Alibi

 The family had a bit of a 'stay-cation' this past weekend in celebration of Family Day. Our first PEI holiday since moving back last year. It was awesome! We stayed up at Mill River Resort, which is just awesome. Aside from the pool being on the cold side (BRRRRRR), we had a fantastic time just chilling, doing the things, and eating a TON of snacks and food. We ate twice on-site at the resort restaurant, Callaghan's, which was great. I didn't grab any pictures or document those meals, but they were lovely.  We checked out on Tuesday, and before heading back to town, we decided to drive up the road 5mins and have lunch at the Alibi Bar & Grill. I mean, how often will we be up in O'Leary/Bloomfield to do so?  The restaurant is rather unassuming, situated in a strip mall that kinda looks like a shipping container. Whatever. It's what's on the inside that counts, right?  I had already eyed up the menu earlier, and noted they had a buffalo chicken burger. So

Mary Comes to Town (of Stratford)

Image
  All hail, a new Chicken Lady has arrived! Wait, no, not that one. Mary Brown's has officially opened up shop in the Town of Stratford. Conveniently, it's a mere 2 minute drive or 13 minute walk from the house, which can be both really great and really bad (for my waistline anyway).  Now, I'm not usually one to jump into a newly opened restaurant, be it sit-down service or fast food. I like to wait it out a few weeks, let the kinks get worked out and all that jazz. Good things take time, a flow has to be developed. Plus, I don't like or have patience for line-ups (even pre-COVID).  Not today, though. Nope. I wanted a spicy-ass Big Mary in my mouth ASAP. And I got it. With good timing, there was no line up, and service was pretty quick and painless.  Gang, this is a good sandwich.  Just the sandwich for me, thanks. Admittedly, I'm not big on taters. I prefer a frenched fry if I'm having a potato-based side. It might be a texture thing, I dunno. They are never us

Hot Chicken in the City

Image
I was able to check off another hot chicken sandwich joint from my list the other night.  Hanley's Hot Chicken is a chicken "pop-up" venture that is utilizing the kitchen at an Irish pub in Stittsville (The Glen).  I've been dying to try this one for a while. They are on UberEats, but outside of my delivery zone, so it was a pick-up only sort of venture. I had an opportunity to get out of the house and go for a bit of a drive, so off to Stittsville it was! You pick your hot level, and I wish I went for the Stupid Hot. However, I backed down and opted for just Cluckin' Hot. It wasn't really all that hot, but had a good spice and heat to it. It didn't make me curse or anything though. Next time, I'm going ALL THE WAY to Stupid Hot.  This is, by far, the best deal yet that I've had for a hot chicken "sando". Fries and coleslaw included for under $15?? Crinkle cut at that!  My Hot Box. I didn't want to wait and eat this 25+ mins later aft
